Merrion offers multiple platform approaches to oral drug delivery. Our comprehensive intellectual property portfolio includes more than 30 issued and in-process patents for the delivery of a wide variety of drugs and biologics.
Oral drug delivery, a $25bn worldwide market, continues to grow. Although oral drug administration is the preferred method for taking medication, many novel therapeutics continue to be administered parenterally (by injection), most notably peptides and peptide mimetics, due to poor absorption across the intestinal barrier. Merrion's proprietary oral drug delivery technologies address this issue by delivering drugs to patients more efficiently and with fewer side effects.
Merrion's platform technologies have been demonstrated to improve significantly the performance of a variety of drugs tested in Phase I clinical trials.
Merrion's unique, oral drug delivery technologies include Gastrointestinal Permeation Enhancement Technology (GIPET™), Gastrointestinal Retention System (GIRES™) as well as a variety targeting technologies including approaches to the oral delivery of vaccines.
GIPET™ is a technology platform, which greatly improves the delivery of poorly permeable compounds to the bloodstream after oral administration.

GIRES™, a gastro-retentive technology, gives 16-24 hour retention times in the stomach, allowing extended controlled release of drug.

Merrion has a portfolio of targeting technologies that address the oral delivery of vaccines, as well as other drug targets. Progress of these technologies is in collaboration with leading academic researchers.
