Gastrointestinal Permeation Enhancement
Technology (GIPET®)

The development of oral products for poorly permeable therapeutics remains a major challenge within the pharmaceutical industry. Numerous drugs and novel biotechnology products, are administered parenterally (by injection) due to their poor ability to traverse the intestinal membrane. Merrion's GIPET® technology is a platform technology developed to allow the oral delivery of many poorly permeable compounds, with resultant improvements in patient compliance, safety and efficacy.

The GIPET® technology platform is clinically proven. In all more than 16 different drugs, including peptide-based drugs, other macromolecules and with small organic molecule drugs, have recorded substantial improvement in oral bioavailability. Merrion's screening model allows rapid and low cost screening of several GIPET® formulations to select the optimal formulations for further development.

The leading GIPET® enhancer matrices enjoy food additive status (GRAS) and are normal dietary components with long records of safe use. Clinical safety data for GIPET® show no treatment-related adverse events were recorded and all GIPET® treatments were well tolerated.

There are three forms of GIPET® technology in the Merrion portfolio, which allow Merrion to work with a broad range of drugs with different physiochemical properties. Importantly, GIPET® formulations involve no chemical modification of the active ingredient.

These key differentiating factors facilitate a rapid, low risk, low cost route to market for new GIPET® products.
